Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:
- FUNimation Entertainment has announced that the company has acquired the broadcast, home video, merchandising, mobile, and streaming rights for the High School DxD television anime series. FUNimation began simulcasting the series on January 23, 2012, and the company is planning to release the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
- Discotek Media has announced release dates for some of their previously announced anime license acquisitions. Panda! Go Panda will be released on April 17, 2012. The Fantastic Adventures of Unico and Unico in the Island of Magic will be released on May 15, 2012. Lupin the 3rd: The Complete First TV Series will be released on June 26, 2012. Golgo 13: The Professional will be released on July 24, 2012.
- Discotek Media has announced that the company has acquired the license for the 1984 anime film, Locke the Superman. This film had previously been licensed by Central Park Media.
- Discotek Media has announced that the company has acquired the license for the 1989 anime film, The Venus Wars. This film had previously been licensed by Central Park Media. Discotek says their release will have a remastered anamorphic transfer with English dubbing, English subtitles, and Japanese dubbing.
- Shuto Con has announced that anime voice actor Richard Epcar will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Epcar is best-known as the voice of Batou in the Ghost in the Shell films. Shuto Con is taking place March 16-18, 2012 at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan.
- Viz Media has announced that Naruto Shippuden began simulcasting on the Hulu Plus subscription service on January 19, 2012 with episode 245. This simulcast will be available in high-definition just an hour after the broadcast in Japan, and new episodes will be available weekly. Users of the free Hulu service will be able to watch the new Naruto Shippuden episodes one week after their initial run on Hulu Plus. The episodes will also be available on Viz Media's VizAnime site.
- Sentai Filmworks has announced the English dub cast for the Dream Eater Merry television anime series. The list is available at BellaOnline's Anime forum.
- AnimeFest has announced that Koji Morimoto will be a guest at this year's convention. Morimoto directed the "Beyond" segment in The Animatrix, and he has also worked on such anime as Akira, Magnetic Rose, Macross Plus, and Tekkonkinkreet. AnimeFest will be taking place August 31-September 3, 2012 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
- NIS America announced that the company has licensed the Daily Lives of High School Boys television anime series. More information about the company's release of the series will be made available at a later date on NIS America's website.
