have finally arrived from Media Blasters, and only a little late. The second Moribito

is, however, still AWOL and we are waiting on an updated ETA. So far we are 6+ months
into Media Blaster's last distribution warehouse switchover, and we are still seeing
the same product shortages that we've been dealing with for the better part of a
year. Most Media Blasters products are no longer immediately able for delivery
to retailers, but instead our restock orders are placed in a que to be filled once
'more new copies arrive', which is often taking several weeks or even months. In
fact, we just got restocks from them on a couple items this week that we ordered
in January (just to give you an idea of lead times we're experiencing). What I think
MB is doing is keeping their carry inventory very low by placing small batches of
replication orders for products as they accumulate in the retailer que, and they
probably don't even order more of something to be printed until a couple hundred
copies have built up in their backorder que. I've seen other Anime studios do this
sorta thing before, and it's pretty poor policy, though it does help when a business
is having cash flow problems. To deal with this situation, we're trying to stock
MB as deep as we can afford to, and have set our reorder levels much higher than
we would for products that we can readily obtain. That way we reorder more often
and in larger qnty, because our goal is to keep these items stocked in OUR warehouse
at all times no matter what problems the studio might be having. Still, it's a frustrating
process and I do apologize to everyone who has had an MB title go on backorder recently,
most notably Ah My Buddha [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=hjzho5bab&et=1105789358310&s=17502&e=001Q7AoHDZPo1SvcyOtN3xHrkEIk9lqlQzeY7uvZwczp0mT-fCiw1NHzHO44nBYbPi4Ox3de7wBMuDsJjo6_PIGq2Udo96qNznDfWU6ucc3Avngah6hZgfC7YswS1_UMX3nMb1QV89YSopNTyBrTAWlCw==]
which has been in high demand yet has been perpetually backordered from MB since
March. Rest assured, we are doing the best we can.

Section 23 was good enough to send us our copies of Demon King Daimao [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=hjzho5bab&et=1105789358310&s=17502&e=001Q7AoHDZPo1QwQiizsMkdnVdMULzJaSph5SEaApT2l98YK1JkYOOTOW80l7tNyEbalHUXuTTu9iqCyvHpXpqAfSyTM-8PSave0pe2X-mJoz2tOBmfD3HoCGml9IPss0L_-qbhYtVMCls=]
a couple of weeks early, but only the regular edition came in quantity. I'm told
the first pressing of the BD was 'over sold' (or more likely, 'under ordered' by
Section 23) and only shipped partial to retailers, so we've filled whatever pre-orders
for it we could and are waiting for the 2nd batch that Section 23 says is due to
arrive early next week - hopefully. Our stock of the regular DVD has since promptly
sold out too, but no worries, more are coming and should be here anytime now.

And finally, the folks down at Funimation - now that they are no longer using Navarre's
internal inventory and order management systems - will be changing over to NetSuite
(of all things) for their internal order processing. This change really effects
retailers like us and not you folks, but what it does mean is that no retailer in
the country will be able to place an order or get a shipment from Funimation between
June 22 and June 29 during their software cutover. I hope the Anime retailers working
AX this year get the word or there will be a distinct shortage of Funimation products
at the dealer tables this year. We'll be stocking up ahead of time, but I anticipate
the usual amount of TOTAL CHAOS in the supply chain for Funimation products will
into July after they change systems.

Did I say TOTAL CHAOS? We'll, the last time an Anime studio made a big change like
this they ended up being down for almost as month. I've been through a couple dozen
of these things over the years, and the laws of inevitability never seem to fail
us. -_^

"I really don't know if I could be in a relationship with a non-geek. Like me, my
husband is also a geek, and it works out pretty well for us. We have many common
interests, so if I want to go to a convention, I don't have to sacrifice time with
my husband to do it. I'm more of a "Pirates" fan while he's more into "Green Lantern,"
but at least most of our movie choices are within the same genres: sci-fi, fantasy,
comic book and action/adventure.
Beyond that, we understand a few things about each other that non-geeks just don't
understand. I know I can't go crazy and spend our rent money on a new costume, but
my husband understands that I'd rather have a new outfit for the renaissance faire
than a pair of Manolo Blahniks. (Not going to lie, I had to look up the name and
spelling, because I'm really not into shoes.)
Similarly, I understand when he needs to geek out over the latest MMORPG (massive
multiplayer online role playing game) or splurge on a "Dungeons & Dragons" companion
guide. It's cool. I'd rather have custom dice than a designer handbag, after all.
If you can't balance work, relationships and hobbies, it's time to take another
approach. Ditch the norm and date a geek. Find a way to incorporate what you love
to do with your job, even if it's in the smallest of ways.
Beyond finding compatibility with another geek, I think my marriage and happiness
are more about acceptance. Instead of feeling weird about some of my hobbies, I
can let my geek flag fly at home. I am with someone who will defend me and my interests.
What's more, my husband helps me out with my hobbies by sewing new costumes, offering
input on articles about geeky subjects and participating in hobbies and interests
with me. It's an awesome way for us to continually learn new things about one another."
I couldn't agree more. And as all of us Anime fans know, you should never feel weird
about your hobbies. Instead, be yourself, and leave it up to the other guy be uncomfortable
about what you do.
And, um, geek sex is better too... -_^

Odd's and Sod's

Clamp-Now is reporting that the Shaenon K. Garrity's book CLAMP in America has been
cancelled by Del Rey. The book was originally going to cover the history of the
four-member manga team CLAMP and their influence throughout the world. The rights
to the book have most likely reverted to Pyrotechnist, which serves as CLAMP's licensor
in Japan. Del Rey had originally announced the book for release at the 2008 Comic-Con
in San Diego. ~sigh~
The Los Angeles-based Gores Group, an investment firm that specializes in buying
distressed companies and trying to rehabilitate them, has offered to purchase more
than 200 of Borders' 405 remaining locations for a price of around $200 million.
The Gores group has investments in the radio-based Westwood One and Alliance Entertainment,
a distributor of CDs and DVDs. Tom Gores, the brother of Gores Group CEO Alan Gores,
has just closed his purchase of the Detroit Pistons NBA franchise. According to
the Wall Street Journal, other suitors are interested in parts of the Borders chain,
and the talks between Borders and the Gores Group "remain fluid and could fall apart."
Interest in Borders has apparently increased after Liberty Media made its $1 billion
bid for rival bookstore chain Barnes & Noble. Since it entered bankruptcy Borders
has shed some 226 stores, though the chain has continued to hemorrhage money, losing
$132 million in April.
Aniplex of America announced at its FanimeCon panel that the Durarara!! anime series

will begin running on the American television network Adult Swim in June. The 26-episode
anime will run during the network's Saturday evening programming block. Adult Swim's
website will also stream episodes after their television run. The 2010 Durarara!!
anime adapts Ryohgo Narita's suspense action light novels of the same name. After
launching his earlier Baccano! light novel series, Narita wrote Durarara!!'s "warped
adolescent fantasy romance" about the colorful young denizens of Tokyo's Ikebukuro
neighborhood. Narita has written nine Durarara!! novel volumes since 2004, and Akiyo
Satorigi began drawing a manga series in Square Enix's G Fantasy magazine in 2009.
On Thursday, United States Bankruptcy Judge Shelley Chapman ordered TV Tokyo and
Nihon Ad Systems (NAS), the owners of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime franchise, to comply
with an automatic stay on the anime's licensing. According to the order, the owners
cannot re-license the franchise or otherwise exercise control over rights to the
franchise. The rights were held by the North American distributor 4Kids under its
2001 and 2008 contracts with TV Tokyo and NAS. TV Tokyo and NAS had announced in
March that they would terminate 4Kids' Yu-Gi-Oh! license and sue the distributor.
The owners claimed that 4Kids fraudulently hid income that should have been subject
to royalties for the Japanese owners. In her Thursday order, Judge Chapman also
said that the trial on the franchise's licensing will proceed in two phases: the
first will determine whether TV Tokyo and NAS' announced cancellation of 4Kids'
license was valid, and whether 4Kids owes the owners money and exactly how much.
4Kids must respond to the lawsuit on June 10, followed by discovery, objections,
and witness lists. The first phase of the trial will begin on August 29. Details
on the second phase have not been revealed.
And finally - here they go agaaaaaain! On May 27, lawyer Evan Stone filed a lawsuit
on behalf of the North American anime distributor Funimation, alleging that 1,427
John Doe (anonymous) users infringed on Funimation's rights to the live-action film
The Legend Is Born: IP Man. The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Texas
Court, demands US$150,000 in damages for copyright infringement allegedly conducted
by the "Does" via the BitTorrent file-sharing protocol. The list of the John Does'
Internet protocol (IP) addresses, reveals that the lawsuit covers alleged acts of
infringement which took place from May 13 through May 26.
