Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:
- Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has green-lit the live-action film adaptation of Akira. Production is set to begin in late February or early March of 2012. According to Variety, the film's current story is: "Set in New Manhattan, the cyberpunk sci-fi epic follows the leader of a biker gang who must save his friend, discovered with potentially destructive psychokinetic abilities, from government medical experts."
- Niconico has delayed the streaming of the The Future Diary, C3, and Maken-Ki! anime series. All the company has said is that the streams of these series have been delayed "until a later date." On October 24, FUNimation and Niconico announced that both sites are now streaming these three anime titles. In addition, FUNimation also told Anime News Network that the One Piece simulcast may move to Niconico if Toei Animation approves it.
- Crunchyroll began streaming the Mashiro-Iro Symphony - The Color of Lovers television anime series on October 22, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The series is available in the United States and Canada.
- Sentai Filmworks has announced the English dub cast for the Loups-Garous anime film: Melissa Davis is Makino Haduki, Corey Hartzog is Ayumi Kono, Hilary Haag is Mio Tsuduki, Luci Christian is Rei Myao, Serena Varghese is Yuko Yabe, Andy McAvin is Riichiro Ishida, David Matranga is Toji Kunugi, and Shelley Calene-Black is Shizue Fuwa. Steven Foster is directing the dub.
- The Broken Blade six part film series will be available to rent on Comcast's Xfinity Top Picks from January 1-January 31, 2012. In addition, an exclusive Top Picks extra will be included at release, and will only be available to Comcast customers.
- Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has acquired the license for the Mashiro-Iro Symphony - The color of lovers anime series. The series will be available digitally soon, and a subtitled DVD release is scheduled for 2012.
