It's another happy Friday from RACS World Headquarters!
I suppose I don't need to tell you that we have truly entered the bizzaro world
when it's 82 degrees here in Virginia in March, and it's snowing in Arizona. It's
been so hot here over the last few days it's not even funny, and now it looks like
I need to break out the lawn mower a month early, which pleases me not! I'm starting
to wonder if we will actually have a spring this year, or if we are destined to
skip it altogether and jump directly into summer. It's not all bad though - I'm
usually not able to ride my bike this much until April. :-)
Like clockwork, our next big figure shipment (3 skids worth) has arrived this week
and is being sorted out on the warehouse dock now. We'll start posting that stuff

Updates

I have some good news, and some bad news this week, so lets get started!

In the good news department, we received 130 more Code Geass R2 DVD boxed sets [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109598440900&s=17502&e=0015koKrALvh3uiLi_cWpmXLqHk8mJBrOcx_rfLvKRIeGKtkVx-xIREXKPS_qGQhoMrMXfrC9sU38Bzp5hrnCfavBCZjDXjMK-oLjALR25U7NfdMzdMNGFXyMMtzUFX0ea17RmcuSIrHxp1oac1BYJCAw==]
from Bandai this week, so it's back in stock and all backorders are being filled
today. As many of you know, it's been sold out pretty much everywhere for a few
weeks now, and people were getting really nervous that it might not be coming back
anytime soon (especially since Amazon is no longer selling it directly). No worries
folks, Bandai is still repressing. In fact, they closed their Anime warehouse this
week and moved their Anime retailer fulfillment over to their LogiPal America warehouse
in Rancho Dimingez were their other division brings in and distributes toys and
figures to US accounts. The consolidation shows that they are definitely winding
down operations at their Anime division, but are not going to stop shipping existing
products anytime soon. I think we will still have a good supply of in print Bandai
DVD's for a few months yet, so no need to send General Bonzo and his SS troops over
to secure the Berlin Best Buy's.... not yet anyway....

Media Blasters posted on their FB account a few days ago confirming that they plan
to release the Squid Girl [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109598440900&s=17502&e=0015koKrALvh3syUtHitlefKP23_nFzxNnedKM4l3TkH_diJLXJQyX7NNlLy8ZY5DgchLg1GrYl-h9g74SGFPtC6qabDd_884bcP250oCru4ZVK8k2cqHaiELzmihcbUcCud5X7qFfNVPWWkt-x-Kp-Tg==]
Season 2. While this is good news, I think we really need to take everything Media
Blasters announces with a grain of salt these days until they actually get it out.
And while everyone else out there just follows the party line, we've been a little
reluctant to post all of their April and May releases for pre-order until we see
how things are going. It's just safer, I think, not to expect too much from them
for the time being.
Vertical announced on their FB page this week that the English release of the Twin
Spica [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109598440900&s=17502&e=0015koKrALvh3vggwNnuDlP4N8UlW_1ewi1O2t3iOV_mca94MgYNeUZdla2rJ245yfh9t9k48nK9si4nRQ3JYDV7POhTaM8tMgjZXJkGvXS5YrDNmoZhUexZp_neqhU908P9bAF2MhfwD98gOlAX8cHsg==]
manga will "likely go out of print in the not so distant future" due to poor sales
and a "complete lack of interest from readers" despite positive reviews. Vertical
added that "other publishers possibly would have canceled it instead of incurring
loses to finish it." This really gets to me - especially the 'complete lack of interest
part', which is totally wrong - Twin Spica has always been a very good seller at
RACS and has a pretty dedicated audience. I suppose the series is a little too
smart to have mass market appeal, and that's all anyone seems to care about these
days. If Vertical had devoted more resources to improve their channel marketing,
Twin Spica might have reached a wider audience. Oh well. ~sigh~

In new license announcements, this week Sentai picked up the "This Boy Can Fight
Aliens" Anime series. And the folks over at Discotek have been busy lately too,
continuing to pick through the dregs of the 20 year old Anime chest by picking
up Casshan/Robot-Hunter, Shin Getter Robo, and (to my surprise!) the most excellent
Samurai Pizza Cats Anime. They also plan to get more classic Lupin if they can.
See kids, old Anime never dies, it just gets re-released at a lower price...

In non-Anime news, the trailer to Ridley Scott's new Prometheus movie has been posted,
and it looks like one I'm going to have to hit the theater to see. "We were soooo

Also of interest, at least to me, Drew Magary talks about his horrid experience

taking the SAT test just for grins again - at 35. Having taken it 3 times myself
at the tender age of 18, I have to agree with his assessment. At 18 the SAT seems
very important - at least to the revenue stream of the test prep industry - but
fortunately from 19 on no one will ever again care how you did and no one will ever
ask for your score during a job application - at least not one for real job. :-)

The Box Office Mojo website reports that Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's
anime film The Secret World of Arrietty [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109598440900&s=17502&e=0015koKrALvh3u0hODDgZn8goAsoNa4FZem_jNQCEiAnNXWy_y_X9sU78rZ0K-uwjVBK6iMnA9r6hwPPxKSvKSNDIg24z4i2RZpTo9WNvBlJ0Msj_WZqetA9i7JaPI03SKg7XPsfru9qpqDfWXlvYeMSw==]
(Karigurashi no Arrietty) has earned an estimated US$233,000 during the March 16-18
weekend, its fifth weekend in American theaters. Arrietty's theater count dropped
by 197 as 304 theaters continued to screen the film, and the film had a per-screen
average of US$766. Ticket sales fell 44.2% from the fourth weekend. With a current
total of US$18,011,000, Arrietty remains the fourth highest grossing theatrical
anime release in the United States (although not when adjusted for inflation). It
is about US$1.8 million below #3's Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie (US$19,765,868)
I'm thinking too few people actually go to the theater anymore to give it enough
of a boost to put it in 3rd place. All 4 prior movies (Princess Mononoke, Spirited
Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo all had better 5th week theatrical takes on
fewer screens, except for Ponyo which was still showing on over 500 screens in it's
5th week. The real test will be the DVD/BD release.
The Japanese studio Toei Animation announced on Friday that the United States District
Court for the District of Columbia has dismissed the lawsuit against Toei's American

Jr., served as his own lawyer when he filed the suit in the district court on December
9, 2010 and named Toei Animation Incorporated (TAI) and the United States of America
as defendants. Potter claimed TAI's Knights of the Zodiac infringed on his copyrights
and trademarks. The court ruled that there were insufficient records to support
the plaintiff's allegations. Potter was seeking an injunction against TAI, US$1
billion in punitive damages, and additional statutory damages. If the plaintiff
contests the ruling, Toei Animation noted that it plans to continue to consult with
lawyers and protest the appeal.
$1 Billion in punitive damages? Toei could never afford to pay even 1% of that.
Potter should have to pay Toei's court costs just for filing such nonsense.
Sentai Filmworks revealed at its Kawaii Kon panel on Saturday that it would consider

They should pickup more of the TV series, I think it's done well enough. But to
be fair, committing to 252 episodes of anything these days is a big commitment for
fans and studios alike.
The website for the Japanese Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS)
reported that on Monday, the Kumamoto police arrested a 48-year-old male temporary
worker in Fukuoka Prefecture's Kurume City for allegedly uploading the first volume
of the Silent Service manga to others via the Share file-sharing program without
authorization around January 17. He is also accused of posting the first volume
of the Godhand Teru manga around January 30. His home was searched on February
28 and his personal computer and 10 hard disks were confiscated.
