From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML

I'm really not sure how it happened, but some of you had trouble getting to the link in this morning's standard newsletter Add Custom Submit Buttons with the INPUT Button Element. When I tested it, it worked, but in the newsletters I was forwarded it was definitely broken. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The link above should work. If it still doesn't work for you, please let me know and I'll send you the link not in a newsletter.

This year, I got to look at the latest version of Dreamweaver in April. While I couldn't announce it until April 23rd (and I'll have even more to talk about after my intensive session with Adobe in early May!), I was playing with it for a large part of the month. Fun! I also played a bit with some CSS3 tutorials and a couple of editors.

In my part of the world (near Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.), spring is just starting to get underway, and it can be hard for me to stay focused on indoor work when it's so nice outdoors! I love listening to the birds chirping outside my window and the smell of the grass and the bright sunshine. I hope that your April was wonderful, and that you're looking forward to the changes of the seasons, whether it's Spring or Autumn where you are.

Please forward this newsletter, in its entirety, to your colleagues, coworkers and friends, anyone you think would like to learn more about web design, HTML, and web development.

Below are some of the more popular articles from last month:

Glow Effects with CSS3
I had fun writing this article because it was something that I had always used Photoshop for before. Not to knock Photoshop or other image editors, but images are just a lot bigger than CSS and text. And anything I can do to speed up my pages, I'm going to do. Learn how to create glow effects using CSS3 that works in all modern browsers!

Stop Optimizing Old Content and Start Adding New Content
Or as they say on LOLCats: Write MOAR Content! Google has introduced an SEO penalty and then last week a spam penalty as well. Some SEO focused sites are now worried that they are going to be hurt in their rankings. But the best way to keep your site up and running is to add more content rather than adjusting the content you have.

Even Small Speed Gains are Important
I mention above about improving speed of my web pages, but you might be thinking that a well optimized image might not be too much larger than a lot of CSS, and so the speed gains might be negligible. This article looks at that issue and explains why even small gains in site download speed are important even if all your customers are on super high speed internet.

Positioning and Clipping Background Images with CSS3
This month I also included an article on a more esoteric aspect of CSS3--clipping. Most graphic artists understand the desire to be able to clip images, but if you're a web designer first it might be confusing. This article explains why you might want to use these new CSS3 features.
