Flood of low-cost tablets expected in $200 to $300 range
Bet on Amazon.com to be at the top of the heap with an expected $299 Android-based tablet expected sometime in October. "Amazon has an ecosystem like Apple, with its own app store that offers music, movies and videos, and a bookstore," said Bob O'Donnell, an analyst at IDC. Read More

Android has 40 percent of the U.S. smartphone market
Nielsen's Mobile Insights survey for May through July showed 40 percent of all smartphones in the U.S. ran Android, while 28 percent were iPhones. RIM made up 19 percent of phones in consumers' hands. Just last November, it held 26.1 percent of the market. Read More

DigiNotar certificates are pulled, but not on smartphones
Browser makers have generally been quick to react to the computer compromise at digital certificate issuer DigiNotar, but that hasn't been the case for all mobile phone makers. On Tuesday neither Google nor Apple would comment on whether they plan to revoke certificates issued by DigiNotar for Android or the iPhone, even as desktop software makers pulled the plug on the Dutch company's certificates.
