Dear Rin,

It's another happy Friday from RACS World Headquarters!
Beautiful weather here at RACS HQ over the last couple of days, with temps near
70. While we're enjoying a warm and relatively snow free winter so far, these spurts
of really fair weather has the flora and fauna around here really REALLY confused.
Things are sprouting and budding that have no business being out in February, I'm
sneezing more than I should be, and the little animals that hibernate over the winter
are all scurrying around wondering why the days are still so short and there is
nothing around to eat. ~sigh~
All of this is pointing to one of those freak DC area March snow storms. Like all
things, every moment of pleasure in life has to be purchased with an equal measure
of pain. It's just like for every really good Anime you've ever watched, you also
probably sat through something thoroughly painful to watch like a Gasaraki, a Peach
Girl, or a Bubblegum Crash. Don't think you are alone, I know all about that folks.

I am VERY happy to report this week that the bulk of the remainder of our shipment
of the Code Geass R2 boxed sets [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109375947541&s=17502&e=001h4RcFmNPNcK-4yA_tYr7V78DDFBCee8eiDRRrOTQ9pXLUyEbgf-DZE8SxPiwHvgs803tk3OROLQtmCSWVXf7mvXSFwenZkYBjynBm7KMF3F7aTGuUKW4Ro89Galp-bOs_pNSP4n1JljCWX7yZ6B1LA==]
have finally arrived - enough for us to finally take it off of pre-order status.
All the remaining pre-orders have now shipped, and should be in your hands soon
if not already. Again, thanks to everyone who was patient while we worked with
Bandai to get the rest of our sets.

Also, we got restocked on the R1 box that was briefly sold out. To anyone who might
have canceled their order thinking they were in for a long wait - see, I told you
so! You get to go to the back of the line now... -_^

In new license announcements this week, we have a BIG ONE! Sentai managed to outbid
everyone else to pickup the 2nd Season of K-On, including the OVA. They have also
struck a deal to work with Bang Zoom for the dub, which means the dub cast should
remain the same as the first season produced by Bandai. DVD & BD release will be
coming later this year, I'm told perhaps as soon as late summer. The one thing
that I'm not sure of yet is if Sentai had to cave on the packaging terms and do
the initial release as singles (like Bandai did) as opposed to a boxed set. I'm
waiting to get some more details from them on that.

In other licensing news, Sentai also picked up 'Kurenai' this week (coming soon
to subtitled DVD), and Funi announced that they have aquired 'Level E' and the 'Sengoku
Basara Samurai Kings movie', which of course they probably won't actually release
for a year.

And finally - this has nothing to do with Anime - but Boston.com has posted a great
photo essay of something that we American's outside of New Orleans tend to miss
in February - that it's carnival season all over the world! Here are some great

Odds and Sods
Walt Disney Pictures released The Secret World of Arrietty in North America last
Friday, and the vast majority of film critics have reviewed the film positively.
As of Friday evening EST, the film scored a 92% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes,
with 100% of the site's selected "Top Critics" turning in positive reviews. Among
the critics, Peter Rainer of Christian Science Monitor newspaper calls the film
"marvelously captivating." Manohla Dargis of The New York Times newspaper notes
that both Studio Ghibli and the film "have a way of taking you where you may not
expect," and Los Angeles Times' Kenneth Turan calls the film "beautiful, gentle
and pure - but not without elements of genuine menace - it will make believers
out of adults and children alike." The film also scored an 84% approval rating among
audience members. Another review scoring site, Metacritic, rated the film at 80
out of 100 based on 24 reviews, and listed a user score of 7.9 out of 10.
Should have been 100% - it's a great film! There are always a couple of critics
who just have to be stupid. Go see it if you haven't already.
A recent television program listing in Japan reports that the Bleach television
anime series will end its run in TV Tokyo's 6:00 p.m. Tuesday timeslot on March
27. When a Twitter follower of Bleach animation director Hiroki Takagi sent him
an image of the listings, Takagi responded by saying, "So quick. I was going to
paste it... /(^o^)\" Shueisha, the publisher of Tite Kubo's original manga, had
already announced that the weekly Naruto SD: Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden
anime will premiere on TV Tokyo on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m.
So that will that bring Bleach too what?, about 366 episodes right?, that ran between
October 2004 and March 2012? That's what, 14 seasons total? If you stayed home and
watched 40 hours of Bleach a week (I mean, if you even could), it would still take
you a month to get from start to end. Assuming all the eps were available on DVD
now, a casual Anime viewer could easily spend an entire year just watching Bleach
and not see the same episode twice. Wow - thinking about that makes my head hurt!

And speaking of Bleach, the Variety entertainment trade news source is reporting
on Wednesday that American film studio Warner Brothers licensed the live-action
feature rights to Tite Kubo's supernatural action manga and anime Bleach. Warner
is now developing the project and has assigned Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans remake)
to write a script. Peter Segal (Get Smart remake, The Longest Yard remake, Anger
Management) is attached as a producer with a possibility of being the director
as well.
Of course, it will be stupid and suck. Warner is involved, so by the time they are
done running the script through 47 wash/rinse cycles, it won't remotely resemble
Bleach except for possibly for some of the characters hair styles.
Anchor Bay announced the lineup for its upcoming theatrical release of Battle Royale,
director Kinji Fukusaku's 2000 feature film adaptation of Koshun Takami's 1999 novel.
The theatrical release will be the film's first official release in North America.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has scheduled the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release in a four-disc
boxed set - which includes the Japanese theatrical cut, the director's cut and the
2003 sequel Battle Royale II - as well as single-disc versions for March 20.
I've always been a fan of this franchise - used to read the manga way back in the
day, as we old people say...
And finally, during a segment of his Lou Dobbs Tonight program on Monday, Fox Business
Network host Lou Dobbs decried both The Secret World of Arrietty film and the upcoming
film adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. Dobbs started the segment by saying that
with both films, "Hollywood is once again trying to indoctrinate our children."
Dobbs added, "two new films out this year, plainly with an agenda, plainly demonizing
the so-called 1 percent and espousing the virtue of green-energy policies, come
what may." Dobbs then described the plot of both films and showed a clip from each.
After discussing the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and showing clips of speeches
from U.S. President Barack Obama, Dobbs said, "The president's liberal friends
in Hollywood [are] targeting a younger demographic using animated movies to sell
their agenda to children." Dobbs' segment ends with a roundtable discussion of
the films with three radio talk show hosts.
This has caused quite a stir in the Anime community, but I'm not sure why anyone
would want to waste their time talking about it on forums and social networking
(of course, I don't understand why people waste their time talking about 99% of
the rubbish they talk about there, so what do I know). I mean, who cares what Dobbs
says to try to stir to pot and stay relevant? For that matter, who cares what anyone
says in the MSM from Fox to MSNBC? You can go see the movie and make up your own
mind what it means - you don't need some commentator like Lou Dobbs or Chris Mathews
or anyone else to tell you what you should think about something. Move on people,

On August 10th of the year 2010 the Holy Empire of Britannia began a campaign of
conquest, its sights set on Japan. In the span of one month the island nation was

followed for the Japanese, now known as Elevens. Just as things seemed at their
bleakest one man chose to stand up and fi ght, the masked crusader Zero. Leading
his Order of Black Knights, Zero instigated a full scale revolution against Britannia
culminating in one fi nal battle, the Black Rebellion. Heavy casualties were seen
by both sides but ultimately Britannia stood the victor resulting in Zero's execution.
And thus was history written. The year is now 2018. With Zero dead and the remnants
of the Black Knights being swept up by the Britannian forces, a forced state of
peace settles over Area 11. The rights of the Elevens remain limited but with no
one to lead them and the defeat during the Black Rebellion hanging over them, the
Japanese people remain under the boot of Britannian oppression with no hope to overcome.
